Career Opportunities in Agricultural Science
What is agricultural science? In general, an agricultural science program is a broad field of study that applies scientific principles and technological advancements to address real-world problems in agriculture. This encompasses a variety of areas related to the production and processing of food, fibre, and other agricultural products. With a degree in agricultural science, graduates can pursue a variety of careers in the agricultural industry. Some common career paths include agricultural agronomist, animal scientist, food scientist, agricultural engineer, and agricultural extension agent and policy analyst.
Since Somalia suffers from a recurrent drought, City University teaches students courses in drought-resistant agriculture, water conservation techniques, and climate change adaptation. The university will also give students opportunities to volunteer in community outreach programs that educate farmers and communities about drought preparedness and response. Agricultural science graduates have several career options. They can work in a variety of fields including crop production, agricultural research, agricultural extension and agribusiness. Those who want to continue their studies in agricultural sciences can also specialize in a wide range of fields, including animal science, plant science, soil science, food science, agricultural economics and agricultural engineering.
Additionally, agricultural graduates can become entrepreneurs and start their businesses in a variety of exciting areas! Here are some examples:
Specialty agriculture: This could involve focusing on a particular niche market, such asorganic farming, hydroponics, or opening greenhouses.
Value-added agriculture: This could involve processing raw agricultural products into finished goods, such as ketchup, mayonnaise, cheeses, peanut butter, sugar cooking oil and so on.
