City University Educational Philosophy & Approaches

  • Learning Outcomes-Based Education: Student learning outcomes guide all curriculum development, instructional, and assessment practices at City University. Student learning outcomes refer to the knowledge, skills, and attitudes students are expected to learn at the university. Learning outcomes can be achieved at the university, program, course, and even lesson levels.
  • Contextualized Curriculum and Instruction: City University strives to offer instruction in real-world contexts whenever possible through case studies, problem-solving, examples, etc.Contextualized curriculum and instruction have proven advantageous for student learning and motivation.
  • Student-centered Teaching and Learning: Student-centred instruction requires students to be active and responsible participants in their own learning. Student-centered instruction focuses on student engagement and builds on every student’s ability and learning style. In other words, student-centered instruction is any well-structured, teacher-guided, student-centered activity that substantially involves students with the course content through talking and listening, writing, reading, and reflecting.

Governance of the City University of Mogadishu

They advocate for the university locally and internationally to build its capacity for today and tomorrow.
  • University Council: The University Council is the University’s supreme governing body, responsible for making all final decisions on matters of fundamental concern to the University, including our academic mission and strategic direction. It ensures that our various systems, structures, procedures, and rules are fit for purpose, that the University is being managed effectively, and that we meet all our legal obligations
  • Senate: The Senate is responsible for directing and regulating the academic life of the University, including teaching, research, exams, and the organization of our Colleges, Schools, and Departments.
